Terms and Conditions

Please read these terms before you register, apply as a tutor, or book a session on JD Science.

Version 1.1 · Last updated 25 August 2026. Anybody registering, applying as a tutor, or booking a session must agree to these terms before continuing.

1. About these terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern use of the JD Science website at jdscience.co.uk and related services (the "Platform"). The Platform is operated by JD Science ("we", "us", "our"). Contact: info@jdscience.co.uk.

By creating an account, applying to be listed as a tutor, booking a session, or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not register or use the Platform.

These Terms apply to visitors, registered users, students, parents or guardians, and independent tutors. Where you act for a child under 18, you agree on their behalf and remain responsible for their use of the Platform.

2. What JD Science provides

JD Science provides a platform through which students and parents can discover and connect with tutors, and through which tutors may list their services. We also publish educational resources. Where we expressly identify a session as provided by JD Science itself, we supply that tutoring directly (see section 4).

Unless we expressly state otherwise, tutors listed on the Platform operate independently and are not employees, workers or agents of JD Science.

Accepting a tutor application for publication means the listing may appear on the Platform. It does not mean we have verified the tutor's identity, qualifications, professional credentials, teaching experience, references, DBS status or other background checks, or that we endorse the tutor.

3. Independent tutors and your checks

JD Science's role in respect of listed tutors is to provide the Platform so that students and parents can discover and connect with them. We are not a party to any contract between a student (or parent or guardian) and an independent tutor, and we do not supervise that tutor's lessons.

Students and, where applicable, parents or guardians are responsible for carrying out their own reasonable due diligence before engaging a tutor. You should consider checking matters such as:

Where JD Science displays qualifications or other information supplied by tutors, that information is provided by the tutor. You should independently satisfy yourself that it is appropriate and sufficient for your needs. We do not state or imply that a tutor has been DBS checked, background checked, professionally verified or endorsed by JD Science unless we have actually completed and documented that specific verification.

If you book, pay or otherwise arrange tuition with an independent tutor — whether after finding them on this Platform or by contacting them directly — that arrangement is between you and the tutor. We do not hold client money for independent tutors.

4. JD Science's own tutoring sessions

The "Book a Tutoring Session" form on this website is for sessions provided by JD Science (including trial and paid sessions processed through our payment provider), unless we clearly tell you that a particular booking is with a named independent tutor. JD Science sessions are separate from any contract you may later make with an independent listed tutor.

Even for JD Science's own sessions, we do not guarantee any particular grade, mark, predicted grade or admission outcome. Teaching support is one factor among many, including the learner's effort, attendance, school teaching and exam performance on the day.

5. Terms for independent tutors

If you apply to be listed, you confirm that you are self-employed (or otherwise lawfully able to provide private tuition) unless we have expressly agreed a different arrangement in writing. JD Science is not your employer, agent or payroll provider by listing you. You are responsible for tax, National Insurance, VAT where applicable, insurance, and any professional or regulatory requirements.

You must supply accurate information. You must not misrepresent qualifications, experience, DBS checks, safeguarding training, rates or availability. We may refuse, suspend or remove an application or listing where we consider it misleading, incomplete or unsuitable.

You remain responsible for your own safeguarding arrangements, including any DBS or equivalent checks required for the ages you teach, parental consent, lesson location, online-safety arrangements, and compliance with the law. Listing you on the Platform does not mean JD Science has carried out a DBS or background check on you.

Any contract for tuition with a student or parent, including fees, cancellations and refunds, is between you and that student or parent. You agree to indemnify JD Science against claims brought by students, parents or third parties in connection with your listing or tuition, except to the extent caused by our negligence or as the law does not allow.

6. No guarantee of academic results

The Platform, resources, worksheets, videos, advice articles and any tuition (whether JD Science's own or an independent tutor's) are educational support tools. They are not a substitute for school or college teaching, and they do not guarantee improved grades, exam success, predicted grades, coursework marks, or university, apprenticeship or employment outcomes.

Past-paper links point to official awarding-body materials. Those materials remain the copyright of the relevant awarding organisation. JD Science does not claim ownership of official exam papers and does not warrant that any linked paper, mark scheme or specification is complete, current or suitable for a particular candidate.

7. Resources, intellectual property and acceptable use

Original JD Science worksheets, notes and site content are owned by JD Science or our licensors. You may use them for personal study. You must not sell, republish, scrape or commercially exploit them without our written permission.

You must not use the Platform to harass, defame, impersonate, upload malware, collect personal data unlawfully, post unlawful content, or attempt to interfere with the site or other users' accounts.

You are responsible for keeping login details confidential. Notify us promptly if you believe an account has been misused.

8. Under-18s, parents and safeguarding

If the learner is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must agree to these Terms and should supervise the learner's use of the Platform and any tuition, including online sessions.

In respect of independent tutors, JD Science is a listing and introduction platform rather than a school, college or childcare provider. Parents and guardians should decide whether a particular tutor, venue or online arrangement is suitable, remain present or contactable as they consider appropriate, and consider safeguarding and DBS checks before arranging tuition.

Anyone with safeguarding concerns about a session provided by JD Science itself should contact us at info@jdscience.co.uk. Concerns about an independent tutor should also be raised with the tutor, the learner's school where appropriate, and the relevant authorities.

9. Registration and accounts

Anybody registering as a visitor, student, parent or tutor must read and agree to these Terms before an account or application can be submitted. We may refuse registration, suspend accounts, or decline tutor applications without giving reasons, including where we believe these Terms have been breached.

Past papers, worksheets, revision notes, videos and other items in the resource library are available to registered users only. First-time visitors must create an account before they can open those resources. On later visits, log in to access the library.

You must provide accurate contact details and keep them up to date. We may send service messages about your account, bookings or application to the email address you supply.

10. Payments, trials and cancellations

Paid JD Science sessions booked through this website are charged via our payment provider. Prices are shown on the booking form. Free trials, where offered, are subject to availability and may be refused or withdrawn.

Unless a consumer cancellation right applies by law, fees for JD Science sessions are non-refundable once a session has been delivered. If you need to rearrange a JD Science session, contact us as soon as possible. We will try to help but cannot promise an alternative slot.

Payments arranged directly with independent tutors are between you and that tutor. We do not hold client money for those tutors.

11. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable UK law. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, JD Science is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data, goodwill, opportunity or anticipated savings, arising from use of the Platform or from an arrangement with an independent tutor.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for JD Science's own services in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid to JD Science for those services in that period (or £50 if you paid nothing).

We are not liable for events outside our reasonable control, including school closures, exam-board changes, internet failure, illness, or a tutor's or student's unavailability.

If you are a consumer, these Terms do not affect your statutory rights.

12. Changes, governing law and contact

We may update these Terms from time to time. The version and date at the top of this page apply. Continued use of the Platform after a change means you accept the updated Terms. We may ask you to re-confirm acceptance when you next register, apply or book.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers may also bring claims in their local UK court where the law allows.
